As it stated in Asa Hutchinson said Thursday he is “hesitant” to support an idea put forth by one state lawmaker to ban the act of smoking medical Marijuana.
No bill to ban the smoking of medical Marijuana had been filed as of 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The governor said both the cultivation centers and the voters’ mindset make him “hesitant about shifting gears” to outlaw smoking medical marijuana.
Arkansas voters passed the medical Marijuana Amendment legalizing the drug for medical purposes in November.
Hutchinson later said Arkansans who want to grow Marijuana in cultivation facilities must pay a $100,000 annual fee — the amount chosen by the Medical Marijuana Commission earlier this month.
Bingo rooms blame smoking ban for drop in charity funding
From 2015 to 2016, charitable distributions were down for 13 of the 16 charities receiving bingo funds in Waco.
Owners of bingo rooms operating in Waco city limits are putting most of the blame on the city’s ordinance to ban smoking, which went into effect in January of 2016.
Most gambling, including bingo, is illegal in Texas but not if it goes to charity.
BGC Waco saw a $39,000 difference in bingo funding from 2015 to 2016.
Overall per person, more was spent playing bingo in 2016 than 2015, but not as many people played, according to statistics from the TGC.
