Zika virus: B.C. cases rise to 47 including 3 pregnant women according to : CBC

That’s why pregnant women, women who may want to become pregnant and their partners are warned against travelling anywhere with active Zika transmission.
Across Canada, at least 439 people have been diagnosed with Zika after travelling, including 23 pregnant women, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
“Pregnant women should really consider seriously whether their travel is necessary,” said Dr. Eleni Galanis of the B.C.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito spreads the Zika virus, as well as dengue fever and chikungunya.

Two new travel-related Zika cases reported in Collier County

The Collier cases are among six new travel-related cases in the state, according to the Florida Department of Health.
The mosquito is a vector for the proliferation of the Zika virus spreading throughout Latin America.
In addition, state health officials reported three new locally acquired Zika infections — two in Miami-Dade and a third in an out-of-state resident.
In travel-related cases, the people with Zika became infected while out of the country and came back with symptoms or developed them after returning to the United States.

B.C.’s Centre for Disease Control says the number of confirmed Zika cases in the province have more than quadrupled in the last six months from 11 to 47, including three pregnant women.
The CDC said pregnant women should seriously consider whether travel is necessary, especially if they’re going to a region where Zika has been found.
But the Disease is especially dangerous to pregnant women because it can cause severe birth defects, including babies born with unusually small heads.
Zika is primarily transmitted to humans by mosquitoes that have previously bitten an infected person, though sexual transmission can also occur.
