Singapore makes first dengue vaccine Dengvaxia available from this week

as declared in Singapore will make the world’s first dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia, commercially available from this week.
The studies also revealed that people who have had a previous dengue infection will be benefitted more from the vaccine as it will act much like a booster shot.
However, it is less effective against the two dengue strains, Den 1 and Den 2, that are most common in Singapore, reported the Straits Times.
According to the World Health Organisation, it provides 72 to 77 per cent protection against Den 3 and Den 4, but only 43 to 55 per cent protection against Den 1 and Den 2.
According to reports, the research, which was done by manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur and involved 41,000 people, showed that the vaccine can reduce dengue by 60 per cent.

as mentioned in CAMILLA CARVALHO/INSTITUTO BUTANTANBrazil’s dengue vaccine in jeopardySÃO PAULO, BRAZIL—A promising dengue vaccine faces an uncertain future in Brazil, scientists say, after the dismissal of a prominent immunologist who has been overseeing clinical trials of the preparation here.
“I do hope the person selected to lead the dengue vaccine program understands the immense effort it takes to see a vaccine through,” Durbin wrote in an email to Science Insider.
Announcing Kalil’s dismissal on 21 February, Governor Geraldo Alckmin praised him as a “great scientist” and said he wished he would continue to lead Butantan’s dengue vaccine program.
NIAID then licensed the preparation to the Butantan Institute, a state-owned biomedical research and vaccine production facility here, to further develop the vaccine and conduct clinical trials in Brazil, where dengue fever is an endemic threat.
He denies the accusations against him and says it’s impossible to continue leading the vaccine program from outside the institute.
