Justin Trudeau Pledges Funds To Planned Parenthood & Women’s Healthcare On International Women’s Day

as mentioned in Today, we doubled our investment to address gaps in reproductive rights & health care for women & girls around the world.
Trudeau has long been an outspoken feminist and supporter of gender equality, and this move further solidifies him as a champion for women’s rights.
According to The Toronto Star, the huge investment will go to five organizations, including the International Planned Parenthood Federation, an organization that Trudeau has voiced support for in the past.
In case you needed another reason to love him, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau celebrated International Women’s Day by announcing that Canada will double its investment in sexual and reproductive health programs for women.
Trudeau’s announcement is particularly powerful, because it comes just days after Trump’s offensive proposal to Planned Parenthood: he’ll allow federal funding for the organization, as long as it stops providing abortions.

Charlie Baker has promised that Massachusetts will plug any holes in the budget of the state chapter of Planned Parenthood if Congress moves to block the use of Medicaid funding for treatment at the women’s health care organization.
The move by Mr. Baker, a Republican governor of a Democratic-leaning state, is intended, in part, to signal the gap between his positions and those of the Republican-controlled Congress, many of whose members oppose Planned Parenthood because the organization provides abortions.

Even so, the willingness to step in to fill a potential budget gap for Planned Parenthood is a pronounced move for Mr. Baker, a former health care executive who has made reining in the state’s budget a major goal of his administration.
