There had been pediatric deaths in four of the five previous weeks.North Carolina flu season officially started October 2, 2016.

This brings the total number of reported deaths from the flu this season to 83.The latest information from the state DHHS released Thursday shows all 17 deaths were adults.
“To compare, last season there were 59 total reported flu deaths.
“Last year we did have a flu season, it was a little more mild.
This was the highest number of flu-associated deaths reported since the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
