Moreover, according to DSM-5 people with this disorder mostly have five or more of the following symptoms.

a) A sense of entitlement (to special treatment)

b) Exploitation of others

c) A lack of empathy

d) Envy of others or the belief that one is the object of envy

e) Arrogant, haughty behavior or attitudes

f) A grandiose sense of self-importance

g) Preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

h) Belief that one is special and can only be understood by or associate with special people or institutions

i) A need for excessive admiration

Recent research pointed out the relation between the disorder and substance abuse along with anxiety disorders.

Therefore, this may relate to some characteristics such as impulsivity.

Scientists till now did not find what might actually cause this disorder.

However, Genetics along with environment might be involved and play a role in developing the condition.

Treatment

Some doctors recommend psychotherapy as the disorder might be challenging as patients develop some sense of defensiveness.

However, it might not be appropriate for some as it is one of the most challenging psychological issues ever.
